Choose the result you actually need
Use Preserve original appearance when the document must look like the PDF. Docsy places each page as a high-quality image inside Word. The layout stays close, but text inside the page image is not directly editable.
Use Editable text when changing words matters more than matching every line, column and font. This works best with digitally created PDFs that contain selectable text.
- Forms, brochures and designed statements usually suit appearance-preserving mode.
- Letters and simple reports usually suit editable-text mode.
- Scanned pages need OCR before their words can become genuinely editable.
Convert and check the difficult parts
Open PDF to Word, choose the PDF, select a conversion style and download the DOCX. Do not judge the result only by the first paragraph. Check the parts most likely to move.
- Tables and multi-column sections
- Headers, footers and page numbers
- Bullets, unusual fonts and text boxes
- Page breaks near images or signatures
Fix common conversion problems
If the layout moves too much, repeat the conversion with Preserve original appearance. If editable mode produces little or no text, the source is probably a scan. Keep the original PDF until the Word version has been reviewed and saved correctly.
- For a large PDF on a phone, split it into smaller sections first.
- For text only, PDF to Text may be quicker than rebuilding a Word document.
- Never delete the original based on an unchecked conversion.
