Use Preserve original appearance when exact page design matters. Each PDF page becomes a high-quality image inside Word.
Use Editable text for letters, reports, and other documents with simple line-based layouts.
Check tables, columns, headers, and unusual fonts after conversion because Word can reflow them differently.

Know before you start

The appearance-preserving mode is not directly editable because each page is placed into Word as an image.
Editable mode reconstructs lines and spacing; complex tables, columns, forms, and custom fonts may move.
A scanned PDF with no embedded text needs OCR before it can become truly editable.

Common problems and fixes

If editable mode shows little or no text, the PDF is probably scanned. Use the appearance-preserving mode or run OCR first.
If the layout moves, retry with Preserve original appearance.
For a very large PDF on a phone, try a desktop browser or split the PDF into smaller sections first.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

Preserve original appearance gives the closest visual result by placing each page as an image. Editable mode prioritizes editable text, so complex formatting can vary.

Can I edit the converted text?

Yes in Editable text mode, provided the PDF contains embedded text. Text in the appearance-preserving mode remains part of the page image.

Does Docsy upload my PDF?

No. This conversion runs in the browser on your device, and file contents are not sent to Google Analytics.
