What this tool is best for
- Cleaning captions from videos that provide a visible transcript.
- Removing timestamp-only lines and repeated adjacent caption lines.
- Keeping a reviewed transcript in a simple TXT file.
Tips for a better result
- Use transcript or lyric text only when you own it or have permission to copy it.
- Keep paragraph breaks when they help separate speakers or sections.
- Compare the cleaned text with the video before relying on quotes.
Know before you start
- Docsy does not automatically download captions from the URL.
- YouTube may not provide Show transcript for every video, language, device, or account.
- The cleaner cannot confirm speaker names, transcription accuracy, or your rights to reuse the text.
Common problems and fixes
- If the URL is rejected, use a standard youtube.com, youtu.be, Shorts, embed, or live-video link.
- If Show transcript is missing, try YouTube on a desktop browser and confirm that the video has captions.
- If timestamp removal changes too much, undo the edit in the text box or paste the original transcript again.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Docsy not extract captions automatically?
YouTube's official caption-download API requires authorization and permission to edit the video, so Docsy does not present protected caption downloads as a public URL-only feature.
Can I copy song lyrics?
Only copy or reuse lyrics when you own them, they are licensed for that use, or you otherwise have permission.
Does Docsy upload the pasted transcript?
No. Cleaning, copying, and TXT creation happen in your browser. Selecting Open video sends the video ID to YouTube.
Privacy note: Docsy labels tools that process locally. File contents are never included in Google Analytics.

Your files stay with you.
Docsy processes supported files inside your browser. Local tools do not upload documents to our servers. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics receives page and tool-usage information—not the contents of your files.
