Compress to Target Size

Compress an image toward a specific maximum size in kilobytes. Docsy adjusts JPG quality locally and tells you when the requested target cannot be reached without also resizing the image.

How to use Compress to Target Size

  1. Choose one supported image.
  2. Enter the maximum size in KB, using a value of at least 10 KB.
  3. Select Compress to target, then check the reported result and review the downloaded JPG.

What this tool is best for

  • Online forms with a stated image-size limit.
  • Email attachments and profile-photo uploads.
  • Finding the highest JPG quality that fits below a practical target.

Tips for a better result

  • Enter 1024 KB for roughly 1 MB or 2048 KB for roughly 2 MB.
  • Resize very large pixel dimensions before targeting an unusually small file size.
  • Keep the original until you confirm the compressed image is readable.

Know before you start

  • The output is JPG and transparent areas are filled with white.
  • Some targets cannot be reached through quality reduction alone; the image dimensions may also need to be reduced.
  • The tool accepts targets of 10 KB or larger and processes one image at a time.

Common problems and fixes

  • If Docsy cannot reach the target, use Resize Image first and then retry.
  • If the image looks too soft, choose a larger target size.
  • Confirm whether an upload form measures decimal MB or binary MB when its limit is strict.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result guaranteed to be under my target?

No. Docsy reports when quality reduction alone cannot reach the requested size without resizing.

Which format is downloaded?

The result is a JPG image.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Compression runs locally in your browser.

Privacy note: Docsy labels tools that process locally. File contents are never included in Google Analytics.
